MetamericBridge Segemental Bridge Design
MetamericBridge is
a computer aided bridge design application that provides roadway alignment geometry control for
the construction of balanced cantilever segmental bridges using the short line casting/formset method.
What sets MetamericBridge apart? The design of the MetamericBridge sofware includes the ability to specify the path and alignment geometry of the bridge's roadway through three dimensional space including curves, banking slopes and hills. The system supports the specification of the bridge design into it's seperate components or "software objects". This allows a model of the bridge to be represented in the software. More importantly this allows all the essential details of the bridge to be calculated, such as bridge alignment and segment shapes (to the milimeter), from it's "virtual bridge model" that the user specifies. Essentially the Segmental Bridge Design system is a "bridge calculator".
This segment is being positioned for attachment to the bridge under construction at the left. You can see a column below that supports the segment based deck structure. Segments are formed in a casting rig on the ground, but before that they exist in MetamericBridge as software objects. If you look close you can see the huge scale of these things; there is a man standing inside the left segment! The holes are for the cables that act like tendons and hold the bridge together. Segements on both sides are tied together to balance the mass. Resources: MetamericBridge web site. Copyright 2006 by Smalltalk.org, All Rights Reserved. |
