Alan Kay to deliver Turing Lecture at OOPSLA 2004!
ACM Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, Systems, Languages, and Applications. Vancouver, BC, Canada, October 24th - 28th, 2004. Alan Kay won the Turning Award this year for his innovative work inventing the Personal Computer and Smalltalk. In addition to the innovative work that he and his team did at Xerox on Smalltalk, Alan and crew have been busy working on a highly amazing collaborative communications tool, built with Squeak Smalltalk, that is known as Open Croquet. It is likely that Alan will be showing this latest work during his Turing Lecture and otherwise at the OOPSLA conference. A developer release of Open Croquet is expected in September 2004. "It's official - Smalltalk Solutions 2005 will be in Orlando, Florida - June 27th to June 29th (with onsite registration open on Sunday, June 26th). We are still narrowing down the specific hotel, but the timing is set." - James Robertson announcment. As more information becomes available we'll keep you informed. If you have additional information please inform us so that we can inform others! ;--) All those interested in presenting papers, giving talks, demonstrating cool object components, etc... it's best to plan ahead and get your entry in as early as possible.
European Smalltalk Users Group (ESUG) This twelfth Edition of the ESUG Joint Event will be held in Köthen, Germany September 6 to 10, followed by a Camp Smalltalk week-end (11 - 12 September 2004).
