IBM Honors Think Pad Warranty
written by Peter William Lount July 21, 2004 Just slighly over three years ago (in 2001) I purchased an awesome top of the line (for the time, now it's run of the mill but still capable) ThinkPad A22p laptop from IBM. I paid through the teeth for it and it's been very good to me ever since. However, just nineteen days after the warranty expired the hard drive died an ugly death with very loud screeches that would make your blood curdle. After one phone call to their support help desk I was referred to the "IBM Call Department" (that's call as in making a decision) after I requested that IBM honor the warranty. Two phone calls and a fax of my original purchase invoice with a politely written letter requesting a new hard drive and a recovery CD (with the OS and IBM ThinkPad goodeis) and they agreed! They will be sending a new hard disk and the recovery CD along shortly. Awesome! Now that's a company that wants to develop and foster customer loyalty. My prior laptop computer was also a state of the art (for the time) unit from Micron. Unfortunately the Micro's keyboard peg impinged upon the LCD panel and destroyed it! After many phone calls with Micron over an extended period of time they wouldn't honor their warranty even though they acknowledged that it was their fault and that they would fix it. At one point they said they'd ship a box to me to send the laptop back to them and it never arrived. I'm still waiting (do you hear this Micron?)! I'm glad that IBM honored their warranty eventhough they might have choosen otherwise (and at first they were just going to send me the recovery CD but since the unit was so close to warranty they honored it) because I like the keyboard peg way better than those silly mouse finger pads. In my experience mice are twice as fast as keyboard pegs which are two to three times as fast as finger pads. For my needs the IBM ThinkPad line offers the best set of features. I can fully recommend them as an effective tool and valuable purchase. Thank you again, IBM Canada. Copyright 2006 by Smalltalk.org, All Rights Reserved. |
